Webinar Series: Different Story, Same Mission: Serving High-Needs Populations in a New National Dialogue

"Different Story, Same Mission: Serving High-Needs Populations in a New National Dialogue" provides higher education professionals with strategies to align their efforts with DEI goals in environments hostile to the terminology or where it has even been banned. This session introduces a streamlined messaging approach to messaging that reframes equity as economic opportunity, emphasizing universal benefits and pathways to economic mobility. Attendees will learn how to communicate their mission using data-driven impact stories, rising tide messaging, and inclusive, non-partisan language to advance meaningful change while navigating complex political landscapes.

Join David Belsky, Founder and CEO of Good Rebellion, for this informative and timely discussion.

Webinar Series: Applying an Equity Lens to Policy Review - Putting Equity into Practice

Historically,  higher education systems, universities and colleges have created policy , practice and procedures without the intended audience in mind. In addition, the people being served may have had an intended or unintended negative impact.  Applying an equity lens to policy review is an essential step to ensure that system and institutional policies broaden their review process in terms of their design, implementation and impact to address inequities in impact and ultimately create a better place for all students to succeed.

Webinar Series: Unleashing the power of mentoring dialogues with the Productive Postdoc Conversations

Mentoring relationships impact early-career researchers’ self-efficacy, sense of belonging, and ability to make informed career decisions. At the heart of mentoring relationships are mentoring conversations, whose characteristics are affected by differences in mentor/mentee expectations and values, as well as hesitancies associated with raising and discussing specific topics.

In this webinar, Dr. Bénédicte (Béné) Gnangnon, postdoctoral associate in Professional Development & Postdoctoral Affairs at Boston University, will provide a brief overview of the literature on mentoring and mentoring dialogues, the conditions for productive mentoring conversations, and the impact of inclusive mentoring practices on individuals and institutional culture.

Webinar Series: Teaching research mentors inclusive people manager skills: Addressing productivity, morale and well-being in the lab

Naledi Saul, Director of the UCSF Office of Career and Professional Development, will share an overview of an NSF grant-funded collaborative initiative designed to retain diversity in the sciences by teaching biomedical scientists the frameworks, tools and language to inclusively lead high-functioning teams. In 2016, UCSF and City College of San Francisco’s Biotechnology Program launched an NSF grant-funded intervention designed to train research mentors in inclusive people manager skills, Three years later, both collaborated with California Life Sciences to assess if the resulting mentor/manager training would also resonate with industry scientists managing individual and team performance. Since its inception, over 1,000 scientists from over 70 academic institutions and biotech companies have completed our Inclusive Research Mentor/People Manager Series. Learn about the training and how using inclusive practices can increase clarity about performance and conduct expectations for trainees in the lab. (career.ucsf.edu/mentor-manage)
