Dr. Eguono “Wayne” Omagamre

Dr. Eguono Wayne Omagamre is an exceptional scientist, specializing in the assessment of safety and toxicity of intentional and unintentional chemicals in the environment. His expertise extends to investigating the mechanisms underlying the impacts induced by these chemicals on aquatic and terrestrial biota. Beyond his scientific prowess, he stands out as a dedicated educator and mentor, adept at guiding a diverse spectrum of biology and chemistry subjects -–from foundational principles to advanced concepts.

Dr. Omagamre's educational journey is anchored by an impressive academic foundation, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Toxicology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, alongside Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental and Industrial Chemistry from the University of Benin, Nigeria. His skills encompass expertise in a wide array of characterization tools in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. This comprehensive scientific skill set seamlessly complements his robust oral and written communication skills.

Currently an NSF RISE UPP Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, his research focus involves utilizing advanced biochemical and molecular tools to investigate the impacts of chemical contaminants on the environment and ecosystems. His research is currently supported by the USDA, and he is actively developing research proposals to address pressing questions concerning the effects of critical chemical contaminants of emerging concern on diverse aquatic and terrestrial models. Dr. Omagamre's dedication to education is evident through his role as an Introductory Biology lecturer, sharing knowledge with freshmen in the field of Biology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. His teaching motivation and experience derive from his dynamic teaching journey, including positions as a teaching assistant in organic chemistry and physics labs, as well as a Lecturer at the University of Benin, where he effectively delivered lectures spanning general chemistry, environmental chemistry, and organic chemistry to freshmen and sophomores.

His outstanding achievements have earned recognition, including honors for innovative solutions, excellence in poster presentations, prestigious scholarships, and active involvement in professional workshops. These accomplishments culminate in refined communication skills, early career research capabilities, and innovative teaching methodologies.
